This rechargeable lithium battery is designed to be used with the Raspberry Pi 5 as the power source for the onboard real-time clock (RTC) whenever mains power is cut.

The battery has a compatible connector for the Raspberry Pi board's backup battery connector (marked "BAT" beside the USB-C connector). The power management IC used in the Raspberry Pi 5 integrates the real-time clock and a charging circuit for these coin cells, which can supply clock power when mains power is off and also charge the battery when power is applied.
