This rechargeable lithium battery is designed to be used with the Raspberry Pi 5 as the power source for the onboard real-time clock (RTC) whenever mains power is removed.

The battery has a compatible connector for the Raspberry Pi board's backup battery socket (marked "BAT" next to the USB-C connector). The power-management IC used on the Raspberry Pi 5 integrates the real-time clock and a charging circuit for these coin cells, which can supply power to the clock when mains power is removed and also charge the battery when power is applied.
