Pimoroni Motor 2040 is a standalone motor controller designed specifically for controlling encoder-equipped motors. Encoder motors allow more precise control of position and speed, making the Motor 2040 an excellent choice for building, for example, a four-wheel-drive robot or other vehicle-like projects.
The Motor 2040 includes a built-in RP2040 microcontroller, so separate control and driver boards are not required. The device also offers several useful features, such as voltage, current and fault monitoring, an addressable RGB LED for visual feedback, and a Qwiic/STEMMA QT connector for additional modules.
Features
RP2040 processor (Dual Arm Cortex M0+, up to 133 MHz, 264 kB SRAM)
2 Mb QSPI Flash memory with XiP support
Two bidirectional H-bridge motor drivers (DRV8833)
Reset and BOOT buttons (BOOT also functions as a user button)
USB-C connector for programming and power (maximum current 3A)
Qw/ST (Qwiic/STEMMA QT) connector for sensors and add-on modules
Supplied fully assembled
Compatibility
The Motor 2040 is designed to work with CAB1009 6 Pin JST-SH connection cable either directly with COM0821 micro motors, or with PIM604 MMME (Micro Metal Motor Encoder) encoders, which allow standard micro metal motors to be upgraded to encoder motors. Motors, encoders and connection cables are sold separately.
