"ETHERNET" NETWORK CABLE SPLIT IN TWO

Because in common 100Base-TX (and 10Base-T) network cabling a four-pair cable is used of which only two pairs are in use, the other two pairs lie "unused." Two such splitters are needed, one placed near the computers and the other near the switch or similar. This way a single permanently installed network cable can be shared between two machines.

THIS CANNOT SPLIT ONE CONNECTION INTO TWO.

Note! You need a splitter at both ends of the cable to be split (= two pieces). The splitter contains no electronics, i.e. it does not act as an ethernet switch or hub. Splitters only allow the transmission of two existing lines over a single cable.
