Arduino MKR1000 is designed to provide a practical and cost-effective solution for makers who want to add Wi-Fi connectivity to their projects, even if they have little previous experience with network connections.It is based on the Atmel ATSAMW25 SoC (System on Chip), which is part of Atmel's SmartConnect family of wireless devices, specifically designed for IoT projects and devices.
ATSAMW25 consists of three main groups:
- SAMD21 Cortex-M0+ 32-bit, low power ARM MCU.
- WINC1500 low power 2.4 GHz IEEE® 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi
- ECC508 CryptoAuthentication
ATSAMW25 also includes a 1x1 stream PCB antenna.
The design includes a Li-Po charging circuit that allows the Arduino/Genuino MKR1000 to run on battery power or an external 5V, with the Li-Po battery charging from the external power. Switching from one source to another happens automatically. The 32-bit processing power is good, similar to the Zero board, the usual generous I/O connections, low-power Wi-Fi connectivity with a Crypto chip for secure communication, and the ease of use of the Arduino software (IDE) for code development and programming. All these features make this board a primary choice for advanced battery-powered IoT projects in a compact form. The USB port can be used to supply power (5 V) to the board. arduino MKR1000 is able to operate with or without a Li-Po battery connected, and its power consumption is limited.
MKR1000 Wifi module supports SHA-256 certificate.
Warning: Does not tolerate pin voltages over 3.3V.
